Classic and Antique Car Show scheduled

Many people do not know that Pattillo Higgins’ 1930 Model A Ford is stored at Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum. Higgins bought the car for $745 brand new and took it around Texas to find oil sites. His car will be joined by other classic and antique cars on November 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Museum visitors will have a chance to vote on their favorite car.

This event is part of º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Homecoming weekend. Visitors can enjoy the car show and the 1 p.m. gusher before finding a viewing spot for the Homecoming Parade that begins at 2 p.m. The parade is followed by Art Extravaganza, a family art event, and Homecoming FanFest featuring live music by Nashville jazz guitarist Paul Childers and local group LN & The Crush, as well as food trucks, activity booths, and free craft beer. The Lamar Cardinals kick off against Central Arkansas at 6 p.m.

Museum Director Troy Gray said, “We enjoy being part of Lamar’s Homecoming weekend and the car show should be an exciting event.”

The Spindletop Street Rods, Aces, and Golden Triangle Model A’s Car clubs have committed to take part in the show. Other car clubs who are interested in participating can contact Director Troy Gray at (409) 880-1762 or Courtney Horton at (409) 880-7942.

Big Red’s Ride is a free event. Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is a replica of the boomtown that grew up around the Spindletop oil fields in the early 1900s. Located on US 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd in Beaumont, the museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
