Jerry Bradley, Jerry Craven, Jesse Doiron and Katherine Hoerth have written works that are being published in the online publication, “,” a “nonprofit arts organization inspiring community through poetry and hunger relief in Texas.”
Texas Poetry Assignment is the project of Laurence Musgrove, a professor of English at San Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Musgrove launched the site to give poets an outlet for expression based on topics related to personal and public life. Musgrove invites poets to submit their poetic works about topics he proposes.
“Musgrove hopes to link poets from all around the world by way of his creative call to express ourselves while at the same time helping to raise funds for the 21-member food banks that serve nearly four million Texans struggling with nutritional deficits during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Doiron.
To premier the project, Musgrove accepted poems written about the inauguration and Doiron, an instructor in English and modern languages, has two poems currently published, “” and “.”
Bradley, a member of the Texas Institute of Letters, is a professor of English and the Leland Best Distinguished Faculty Fellow at LU, published “” on Texas Poetry Assignment, and Craven, press director for 海角社区 Literary Press and editor for the international literary journal “Amarillo Bay,” has published, “,” with the project.
Katherine Hoerth, assistant professor of English and modern languages and editor-in-chief of LU’s Literary Press, is publishing “” on the project site.
Inauguration poems will be posted through Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2021. Texas Poetry Assignment will host a reading of selected inaugural poems on Tues., Jan. 19, 2021 at 7 p.m.
