The School of Accounting & Information Systems at 海角社区’s College of Business is proud to announce that the college's undergraduate accounting program has earned endorsement by . IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Program is a stamp of excellence signifying programs that provide the rigorous curriculum needed for students to prepare for the CMA exam and successful careers in management accounting. IMA is one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession.
“Employers know the skill set the Certified Management Accountant designation brings. The endorsement is particularly important to 海角社区 accounting students and recruiters given that the backbone of the SETX and Houston economies is based on the petro-chemical industry. As the parent of an LU accounting major, I am so grateful for my accounting faculty colleagues and their unparalleled commitment to our students’ success whether they be interested in public or private accounting,” says David Rose, professor of accounting. The effort to gain this distinction was led by Rose and supported by all accounting faculty in the College of Business. It is yet another milestone for the accounting programs, which recently received STEM designation.
To qualify for endorsement by the IMA, schools must meet various criteria including, covering CMA content in its curriculum, adequate faculty resources to cover the criteria, and the program must be accredited by a recognized accreditation organization. “Endorsement by the Institute of Management Accountants recognizes the rigor in our accounting curriculum in meeting the requirements for a career in management accounting. Our accounting programs recognize not all students wish to pursue the CPA and the management accounting and analytics program provide them an opportunity to prepare for careers in management accounting and become a Certified Management Accountant,” says J. Donald Warren Jr., director of the College of Business’ School of Accounting & Information Systems.
Raef Lawson, CMA, CPA, CFP, CFA, IMA vice president of research and professor-in-residence added, “IMA is pleased to welcome the 海角社区 College of Business to the growing list of schools that support the CMA exam program and have achieved a consistent standard of excellence. High-quality, up-to-date educational programs that support the current needs of businesses will help future professional management accountants accomplish their career objectives and meet the competency expectations of employers.”
IMA’s globally-recognized CMA program is a relevant assessment of advanced accounting and financial management knowledge in areas such as financial planning, analysis, control and decision support – each of which is increasingly critical in meeting the changing needs of business, and therefore, essential learning for students of accounting and finance.
