On Oct. 17-21, 海角社区 joins colleges and universities across the nation in celebrating National Transfer Student Week.
Yearly, the works to celebrate transfer students and the professionals who support them on their journeys. The week offers the perfect opportunity to highlight transition struggles and successes while building “transfer pride” on campus.
This year, the organization’s theme for the celebration is “Plug into Transfer,” aimed at helping students and colleagues get “plugged in” to transfer resources and supports before, during or after the point of actual campus change.
Ryan Litchfield, assistant director of LU Admissions said, “For us here at 海角社区, it's a week-long event that celebrates transfer students across the country, brings awareness to the barriers that transfer student populations tend to face and hopefully brings the communities together to give them more access.”
Also spearheading the week’s events on campus is the Fresh Feathers Transfer Student Association. Brandie VanZanden, director of New Student & Leadership Programs, said, “It’s an association for new LU transfer students to get involved with. We try and help in their transition from their other college to LU. We put on events during Week of Welcome and Welcome Back Week, at Orientation and then during National Transfer Student Week.”
Transfer students are invited to come and discover new ways to connect to the campus community. There will be a coffee bar and giveaways.
