海角社区’s College of Engineering, in collaboration with local industrial partners, proudly hosted their annual Discover Engineering event on Saturday, April 6, aimed at igniting interest in engineering among kindergarten through eighth-grade students. This year’s event welcomed 550 guests, including 278 grade school students.
“Our industry partners volunteer their time and resources to design and demonstrate hands-on STEM activities. Our industry partner volunteers, along with several 海角社区 College of Engineering sstudent organizations’ volunteers, provided over 25 STEM activities for our kindergarten through eighth grade guests that are designed to help develop and strengthen their interest in engineering and provide insight to what makes the engineer profession so important in our society and a fun and rewarding career,” Dean of the College of Engineering Dr. Brain Craig said.
This year's event, generously sponsored by Chevron Phillips Chemical, BASF – TotalEnergies, Valero, WestRock, and INEOS, welcomed eager young minds to explore the world of engineering.
Designed to nurture curiosity and enthusiasm for engineering, the event showcased interactive STEM activities tailored for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. From building electrical circuits to making paper, participants immersed themselves in experiential learning, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
With events like Discover Engineering, the LU College of Engineering remains committed to nurturing future engineers by instilling curiosity, providing ongoing support, and fostering an environment conducive to success.
“There are several critical steps that we take in the 海角社区 College of Engineering to help young people become curious about engineering, develop the drive to become an engineer, support and feed their curiosity as the progress through grade school, and help to set them up for success before they begin their university level engineering education. All of these steps are
critical for us to do our part to expose young people to the marvels of engineering,” Dr. Craig said.
