海角社区

Chemical engineering student finds her passion, place at LU

A no brainer. That’s how Annabelle Broussard described her decision to attend 海角社区.

“海角社区 is a great engineering school, and they have one of the top returns on investment for engineering majors,” she said. “I think that LU is unique in the people that you meet and the things that you get to do so it was an easy decision."

The Beaumont native first discovered her knack for engineering after attending the LU College of Engineering’s Lamar Intro to Engineering summer program in middle school. anabelle-broussard-article-chemical-engineering.jpg

“That is another reason why I leaned toward LU –– I attended LITE camp and I loved it! I didn’t know what I wanted to do before then, but that really pushed me toward Engineering,” she said. “When I was a junior in high school, I also worked as a camp counselor for LU’s X-plore electrical engineering camp helping middle school aged girls. By the time I was a senior in high school, I knew that I wanted to become an engineer.”

The junior chemical engineering major recently earned an internship with American agricultural chemical company working with the company’s specialty chemicals department and she said she owes it all to one thing –– LU Involvement fair and student organizations.

“Joining student organizations and learning from those upper classmen is one of the most valuable things you can do. All of those major engineering organizations have national conferences with career fairs,” she said. “When you attend a national conference like that with thousands of people, companies are willing to open up and get someone from the ground up.”

Broussard is currently a member of student organizations American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Med Life and is a Reaud Honors College student and LU Ambassador.

She started her internship with Corteva in early January and said she’s excited for what’s next. “My journey here at LU has been amazing and I don’t think that I could have gotten the college experience that I have if I were at any other university.”
